Piqué couldn’t be happier about the Messi & Neymar partnership

Last weekend, it only took Messi and Neymar about 30 minutes together to finally breach into Athletic Bilbao‘s well organized defense and deliver the 3 points to Barcelona. Just like the Brazilian ace, Piqué started the game on the bench and only came in after the half-time break, following some physical problems with Javier Mascherano.

During this Tuesday’s press conference to preview Barcelona‘s debut in the Champions League tomorrow night against APOEL Nicosia, the Spanish international talked about how important both Lionel Messi and Neymar are for the team.

Piqué: “Neymar was welcomed the best possible way since his first day and fortunately it didn’t take him much time to adapt to our kind of football. Ever since he arrived, he’s had a great understanding on the pitch with Messi. They are two of the best, if not even the best players in the world. They can easily decide games in our favor when they are playing together and we have to try make the most of that”, stated the 27-years old defender, who has been spending more time on the bench than usual this season…

Who also praised Neymar was FC Barcelona‘s coach, Luis Enrique. The Spanish coach noted that the Brazilian already had a first great year in Spain and that now under his orders, he hopes he can continue developing as a football player.

Luis Enrique: “I think Neymar had a great season last year. He’s a tremendously gifted and talented player. If he does improve in the years to come, which is obviously one of my goals as his coach, then perfect!”

The UEFA Champions League starts this Tuesday night, with several interesting games taking place across Europe. Starting with a Real Madrid vs Basel at the Bernabéu, or an exciting Borussia Dortmund vs Arsenal in Germany soil, there’s plenty of action to choose from. This Wednesday will also have a couple interesting games worth following, with a Bayern Munich vs Manchester City at the Allianz Arena and obviously the FC Barcelona vs APOEL Nicosia match-up at the Camp Nou.
