Almeria 1-2 Barcelona: Suárez and Neymar sparked the comeback

Almeria 1-2 Barcelona: Suárez and Neymar sparked the comeback

Full-time: Almeria 1-2 Barcelona
Goals: Neymar (73′), Jordi Alba (82′)
Match date: November 8, 2014
Stadium: Juegos Mediterráneos
Competition: La Liga
Barcelona line-up: Bravo, Jordi Alba, Bartra, Mascherano, Adriano, Busquets, Rakitic, Rafinha, Pedro, Lionel Messi, Munir.

Barcelona somehow rescued the 3 points from the “Juegos Mediterráneos” stadium this Saturday afternoon, in what was probably one of the Blaugranas‘ worst performances of the season. Luis Enrique‘s men were never comfortable in the game and if they did get out of Almeria with the 3 points in the bag, they have much to thank for it to Luis Suárez and Neymar Jr. Both players started the game on the bench, but ended up joining it right after the half-time break in order to turn things around for their side.

The hosts were the ones who got off to a better start though and in a pure counter-attack play in the 37th minute of the first half, Thievy Bifouma basically left Marca Bartra eating dust in a long run that started way before the half line and then finished it off in style when he had only Bravo in front of him.

Barça were dominating most of the possession but as time passed, Almería‘s belief in pulling off a positive result was also growing. The fate of the game only started changing around the 73th minute, when Luis Suárez short dribble inside Almeria‘s box earned him enough space to put in a low cross into the center, perfectly aimed to Neymar. The 22-year old forward knew he couldn’t miss from there and with a simple right-foot touch, he saw the ball still taking a deflection before going in and equalizing the game.

There were 15 minutes left on the clock for Barça to still strike the final blow and that moment arrived in the 82nd minute. Just like in the first goal, it was Luis Suárez who found a teammate free of marking and this time he set up Jordi Alba for a short-range finish right in front of Almeria‘s goalkeeper. The Spanish full-back didn’t miss such a great chance to score and delivered Barcelona the crucial lead that will allow them to keep challenging Real Madrid in the top of La Liga standings.
